It has been announced that Season 3 of the TV anime "Grand Blue Dreaming," based on the manga serialized in "good! Afternoon" (Kodansha), will begin airing in July on TOKYO MX, BS11, and MBS. A teaser visual has also been released, featuring Iori Kitahara, Chisa Kotegawa, and Kohei Imamura visiting the southern island of Palau, along with a mysterious, glamorous beauty.
It was also announced that Sayaka Ohara will play Sayaka, the mother of the Kotegawa sisters; Asami Seto will play the chief employee of Dolphin, the diving shop in Palau run by Sayaka; and Aya Suzaki will play Maki, an employee of Dolphin.
Ohara commented, "Since we share the same name, I felt a sense of familiarity going into the set. As it's the third season, everyone's atmosphere was so close and warm, like a family, and I was so happy to be able to work in such a relaxed atmosphere. And I was taken aback by the array of alcoholic beverages lined up on the tables in the studio lobby. I thought, 'This is a really generous production (laughs). Long live youth!'"
Seto said, "I love diving, so I was very happy to be able to participate in the world of ' Grand Blue Dreaming.' I got to experience firsthand the professionalism of the regular cast members, from the fast-paced banter and quick-witted exchanges to the ad-libs. It was hard to hold back my laughter, and it was the first time I've ever laughed so hard during voice recording...! There are plenty of scenes full of Grand Blue Dreaming Blue's signature gags, of course, but there are also heartwarming scenes depicting romance against the backdrop of the beautiful sea of Palau. Please look forward to the broadcast!"
Ms. Suzaki commented, "I'm so glad I have my diving license!! (I heard that was one of the deciding factors in my casting). Maki is energetic, cheerful, and likes dirty jokes a little (laughs), so it was fun to play her. I was struggling to hold back my laughter every time at the voice recording studio...! There were lots of cans of alcohol lined up in the lobby, and every time I was told to take as many as I wanted, so I gratefully took some home (laughs). I'm looking forward to seeing the finished video! Please look forward to the broadcast!!"
"Grand Blue Dreaming" is based on a manga by Kenji Inoue, known for "Baka and Test and Summoning Beasts," with illustrations by Kimitake Yoshioka. The story follows Iori Kitahara, who moves in with his uncle by the sea when he goes to university, and meets passionate men who dedicate their youth to scuba diving and his beautiful cousin who has grown into a young woman. The comics have sold over 10 million copies in total. In Season 3, the diving shop Dolphin opens a branch in Palau, but they are short-staffed, and Nanaka asks Iori to come and help out.
The TV anime's first season aired from July to September 2018, and its second season aired from July to September 2025. A live-action film starring actors Ryo Ryusei and Atsuhiro Inukai was released in August 2020, which also garnered attention.
