A stage greeting for "Super Princess Kaguya!", the first feature-length original anime directed by Shingo Yamashita, who has worked on the opening sequences for popular anime such as the first season of "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man," was held on June 19th at Cinema City Cinema Two (Tachikawa City, Tokyo). Yuko Natsuyoshi , who plays Kaguya, Saori Hayami, who plays Tsukimi Yachiyo, and director Yamashita appeared on stage. The stage greeting was held as a "farewell stage greeting for the last fan service!" in response to the film's final screening on June 18th in most theaters, but it was announced that a special format version will be screened from September 18th, and that the regular version will be shown again.
Natsuyoshi said, "I said this would be my last fan service, but what do you mean by 'last'? It's not the last at all! But I truly owe it all to you all. Thank you so much." She continued, "I hope that you will be excited about 'Super Princess Kaguya!' this year and follow along with this work. If possible, I hope that I can walk this path for a long, long time with all of you who have loved 'Super Princess Kaguya!' and whom I have met here."
Hayami also expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thanks to all of you who love this work and cherish it so much, it's certain that the world of 'Super Princess Kaguya!' will continue to expand in this way. Thank you so much." Reflecting on Yachiyo, the character she played, she said, "Yatcho has always had her time with Iroha and Kaguya in her heart, and she has also met many different people. I think that she has lived her life as Yachiyo, drawing strength from the energy and precious things she has received from those people. No matter how much time passes, if there is a work and music, you can draw strength from them and live on. I hope that your encounter with the work, characters, and music of 'Super Princess Kaguya!' will continue to live on as something important in your life as Yachiyo walks through it."
Director Yamashita also expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, "This project is something I'm doing as a job. But it's also pretty close to a hobby. It's a project where I'm really doing what I love, so I think I'll probably continue to do a lot of fun things in the future. Not just this project, but I hope you'll stick around thinking, 'There might be something else coming.'"
"Super Princess Kaguya!" premiered as a Netflix movie on January 22nd, and due to its success, it began theatrical release on February 20th. Initially planned for a limited one-week run, its success led to an extension of the theatrical run. In approximately four months since its release, it has grossed over 2.5 billion yen and attracted over 1.2 million viewers, achieving an exceptionally long run for a film that was initially released on Netflix.
In this "music anime" inspired by the classic "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," 17-year-old high school girl Iroha Sakayori, who is juggling part-time jobs and schoolwork, encounters Kaguya, who emerges from a gaming-themed utility pole that glows in seven colors. The anime was produced by Studio Colorido, known for works such as "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromato, led by director Yamashita. A host of talented Vocaloid producers, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot, provided the music.
