Ryota Miyadate of the popular group "Snow Man" appeared at the opening day stage greeting for the film "Black Prison" (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa), starring actor Masahiro Motoki, held in Tokyo on June 19th. He revealed a memorable comment Motoki had made to him.
"Kurorojo" is based on Honobu Yonezawa's masterpiece mystery novel, and is set in Arioka Castle during the Sengoku period. Araki Murashige (played by Motoki) rebels against the tyrannical methods of Oda Nobunaga and decides to hold out in the castle, but a series of strange incidents occur. The suspects are one of his retainers or family members who are trapped inside the castle, which has become a locked room... As everyone becomes suspicious of each other, Murashige teams up with Kuroda Kanbei (played by Masaki Suda), a dangerous genius strategist imprisoned in jail, to try and solve the case... This is the story. Miyadate plays Inui Sukesaburo, a young retainer who is loyal to Araki Murashige.
In connection with the theme of the film, Miyadate was asked about a phrase that had left a lasting impression on him, saying, "Mr. Motoki told me, 'Mr. Miyadate, you're a chameleon actor.' Those words gave me a dream, and I decided I wanted to work hard to become that kind of actor."
He continued, "From now on, I'd like to encounter various works, and at the right time for people to see them, I'd like to make an effort to forge my own path while confirming the meaning of the words I've been given...I thought so," he said earnestly, but stumbled over his words at the end, prompting Sugada to interject, "You thought so!?", and Yoshitaka Yuriko also burst into laughter, saying, "'I thought so'!"
Motoki praised Miyadate, saying, "People think of him as the variety show guy, but he can behave naturally like this and has great physical abilities," and added, "He was just acting out comedy just now! That's also part of his chameleon side!" Miyadate lamented, "I was given such nice words, but I ended up stumbling right at the very end..."
Takashi Aoki, Tasuku Emoto, Joe Joe Odagiri, and director Kurosawa also appeared at the event.
