Singer Yu Hayami appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on June 19th, where she talked about the appeal of mountain climbing.
Hayami, who will soon be turning 60, nodded emphatically when Tetsuko asked her if she had grown to love her hobby of mountain climbing even more. "I've always wanted to go mountain climbing, and I finally started about four years ago," she revealed.
In January of this year, she climbed Mount Yatsugatake in Nagano Prefecture. "It was my first time climbing a mountain in winter. Everything was pure white, a beautiful silver world," she said excitedly. She has not yet climbed Mount Fuji, but she would like to try. "Everyone around me tells me that I should climb it as soon as possible, while I'm still young, so if I get the chance this summer, I'd like to climb it," she said.
When asked about the appeal of mountain climbing, he emphasized, "If you take one step at a time, you will surely reach the summit. It's an obvious thing, but you can't give up halfway. In life, even when things are tough, if you take one step at a time, you can feel that a new view is waiting for you. Also, you can feel the wind, hear the birds singing, and it feels really good."
