It has been announced that "Kaze wo Tsugumono," an original TV anime series about the Shinsengumi produced by Aniplex, Live2D, and Drive, will air on CBC TV and TBS's anime block "Agaru Anime" every Sunday at 11:30 PM starting in January 2027. Prior to the broadcast, it was also announced that a theatrical release will take place in 2026.
Additional cast members have also been announced, with Nichika Omori playing Kurosuke, a cat who lives with the Shinsengumi at their headquarters. Omori commented, "I previously played the cat Okita Soji in a film by director Tomohiro Kawamura, but this time, wow! I get to play a cat in the Shinsengumi! I'm so happy to be able to play a cat! When I make Kurosuke's voice at home, my cats talk back to me, which is really fun. Even on set, Kurosuke is chatting freely in my mind. I hope you enjoy this film while feeling the new wind of the Shinsengumi. I hope I can become a lucky cat that brings happiness to 'Kazetsugu,' the Shinsengumi, and everyone. Meow!"
A new promotional video has been released featuring the main characters, including the amnesiac protagonist, Tachikawa Jinsuke, who appears before the Mibu Roshigumi. The video also features Okita Soji, the assistant vice-commander of the Mibu Roshigumi who is concerned about Jinsuke's amnesia, Koganei Hyogo, a fellow member of the Mibu Roshigumi, Hijikata Toshizo, the vice-commander of the Mibu Roshigumi, and Kondo Isami, the commander of the Mibu Roshigumi, and includes the sound of Kurosuke crying. Poster visuals of Hijikata Toshizo and Kondo Isami have also been released.
The film is directed by Tomohiro Kawamura, known for works such as "GAMBA and Friends," with a script by Yutaka Narui, the founder of the theater group Caramelbox, whose "Tachikawa Jinsuke Series," including the Shinsengumi-themed play "The Inheritor of the Wind," has garnered a large following. Shigeru Kishida of the band Quruli will be in charge of the music. The story follows Tachikawa Jinsuke, who suffers from amnesia, as he is swept up in the turbulent times. It is said to be a "new-style authentic period drama anime" that fuses Live2D and cel animation.
