The latest volume, volume 39, of Yoshihiro Togashi's popular manga "HUNTER×HUNTER" (Shueisha) was released on July 3rd. With the release of volume 39, the series has surpassed 100 million copies in total circulation. This is the first new volume of the series to be released in approximately two years. The volume depicts the ongoing battle between the Phantom Troupe and the Mafia on a ship, as well as the fierce battle for the throne.
To commemorate the release of the latest volume, volume 39, an advertisement will be published in the July 3rd morning edition of the Asahi Shimbun. A promotional video celebrating the manga surpassing 100 million copies sold will be released on the official Jump YouTube channel, "Jump Channel."
"HUNTER×HUNTER" began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 1998. It depicts the adventures of Gon, a boy who leaves his hometown to become a professional hunter like his father, whom he was separated from when he was young, and his companions, including Killua, who grew up in a family of assassins. It was first adapted into a TV anime in 1999, and a second anime version with a completely new staff and cast aired on Nippon Television from 2011 to 2014.
The series had been serialized with breaks in between, but in the December 26, 2022 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump (2023 combined issue 4/5), which featured chapter 400, it was announced that the publication format would change from chapter 401 onwards. Considering Togashi's health, it was decided to adopt a publication format that was "not weekly." Chapter 401 was published in the October 7, 2024 issue 45, followed by chapters 402-410. The publication of the latest chapter, chapter 411, in the June 29 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump (issue 31) has also become a topic of discussion. This marks the first publication in approximately 18 months since the Getsuku, 2024 issue of the same magazine (2025 issue 2).
