It has been revealed that "Heavy Armored High School Girls," an original content series by illustrator neco themed around "armed high school girls," will be adapted into a TV anime series that will air in 2027. The popular series, which has also been made into figures, will be produced as a joint project between Good Smile Film and Good Smile Company. Masaki Tachibana, known for "Star Wars: Visions Volume 3" and "Princess Principal," will direct, and Natsuko Takahashi, known for "Yuyushiki" and "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0," will be in charge of series composition.
A new visual drawn by neco has been released. It depicts Ichi, a high school girl, carrying multiple symbolic swords. A promotional video featuring Ichi and a mysterious girl gazing at the distant sky has also been released.
Neco said, "Having my work turned into an anime is incredibly gratifying for me as an illustrator, and that's why I've been working hard to do everything I can for this project. I'm sure I caused a lot of trouble for the production team, but thanks to the support of so many people, I'm truly happy to be able to announce this project to everyone. 'Heavy Armored High School Girl' was born from a single illustration and has grown into a figure and now an anime. I hope you'll look forward to it airing."
Director Tachibana commented, "When we were animating 'Heavy Armored High School Girls,' we spoke with the original author, neco, and she gave us her opinion on things like, 'I think this character might have this kind of personality,' which helped us develop the script. When the characters came to life during the voice recording, neco and I enjoyed discovering new things about them, thinking, 'So this is what she's really like.' Please look forward to seeing Ichi and the others in action."
Takahashi said, "First of all, I was very drawn to the heavily armed high school girls that neco depicts. Then, when I received the project proposal from the producer, I was very attracted to these girls who, while wearing armament that has a weight that goes beyond mere physical weight, are still 'high school girls' on the inside. I think that the fact that I was able to have in-depth discussions with director Tachibana Masaki, neco, and many other staff members, whom I know well, is strongly reflected in the charm of the work. Throughout, I was impressed by the ideas and suggestions of the production team. I hope that viewers will enjoy seeing these girls who, despite wearing heavy armament in a meaningful sense, still have the lighthearted smiles of high school girls."
A special corner for the TV anime "Heavy Armored High School Girls" will appear at "Good Smile Fest 2026 Tokyo," which will be held at Belle Salle Akihabara (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on June 6th and 7th. The teaser visual for the anime will be displayed at the venue, and popular cosplayer Nene will be showcasing her cosplay of Ichi. Novelty items will also be distributed.
