65-year-old actor Katsumi Takahashi will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which airs at 1 p.m. on April 23rd.
He had a long period of struggling in the industry, and his turning point came in his late 30s with the drama "Shomuni." He continued to work part-time jobs even while appearing in that drama. His parents had opposed his acting career and had disowned him, but after he became successful, they started to enjoy watching his stage performances. He reveals his origins and bonds, including memories of movies with his late parents and his unchanging feelings for his co-star, Toshihito Ito, who passed away suddenly in 2002 at the age of 40.
He has a son in the second year of junior high school and a daughter in the fifth grade of elementary school. He talks about playing catch with his son, who has grown so much that he has surpassed him in age, and about his lively life with his children who are busy with their extracurricular activities. He says that his wife, who is 14 years younger than him, takes on most of the childcare responsibilities, and he expresses his gratitude to her.
