The Japanese voice cast for "Street Fighter: The Movie" (directed by Kitao Sakurai, worldwide release on October 16th), a live-action Hollywood film adaptation of the popular fighting game "Street Fighter," has been announced. Hiroki Takahashi will voice Ryu, Yuji Kishi will voice Ken, Fumiko Orikasa will voice Chun-Li, Hiroki Yasumoto Hiroki Yasumoto, Miyuki Sawashiro will voice Cammy, and Satoshi Tsuruoka will voice Bison. Takahashi and the others voiced the same characters in the "Street Fighter" game series and will be appearing in the Japanese dub of the live-action film. It was also announced that Cho will voice the commentator, Don Sauvage.
The Japanese dubbed version, featuring visuals inspired by the game's character selection screen—which garnered attention when the cast of the live-action version was announced—has also been released.
A teaser trailer featuring characters such as Ken, Dhalsim, Guile, and Chun-Li has been released on YouTube. The video includes battle scenes, showing Guile performing a somersault kick, Ryu a Tatsumaki Senpukyaku, and Ken a Shoryuken.
A video message from director Kitao Sakurai has also been released on YouTube. Kitao, who was born in Japan and raised in America, greeted everyone in Japanese, saying, "Hello everyone in Japan," and added, "Even after living in America, my connection with Japan remained strong, and 'Street Fighter' was a very important game to me." He revealed that his favorite character was Ryu, and that it was very cool to him to see him (a Japanese character) fighting against fighters from all over the world, indicating that Japanese games, which are his roots, are strongly connected to his childhood.
Before filming began, they discussed the project with Takayuki Nakayama, the game director of "Street Fighter 6" and also credited as a producer, at Capcom headquarters. The video also includes an interview with Nakayama, in which he gives his seal of approval, saying, "It's reassuring to know that the director and all the staff love Street Fighter and are fellow 'fans' like us."
