On April 15th, a preview screening of the first part of " Sound! Euphonium! Ayano Takeda : The Final Movement," a theatrical film that reconstructs "Sound ! Sound! Euphonium ! Sound! Euphonium," which is based on the novel by Ayano Takeda, was held at Shinjuku Piccadilly. Tomoyo Kurosawa, who has played the main character Kumiko Oumae for about 11 years since the start of the first season of the TV anime in 2015, said upon the completion of the first part of "The Final Movement," "I'm happy but also sad. There's a sadness in hearing the footsteps of the (ending) approaching, but there's also an exhilaration in wanting to see it as a theatrical film, and my soul is rejoicing. I'm mostly happy."
The screening was attended by Ayaka Asai (voice of Hazuki Kato), Moe Toyoda (voice of Midori Kawashima), Chika Anzai(voice of Reina Kosaka), Haruka Tomatsu(voice of Mayu Kuroe), director Taichi Ogawa, euphonium player Shoichiro Sotoyuki, and trumpet player Hayato Kodama.
Asai said, "(Kurosawa) feels the same way. We've been on this path for over 10 years, so it's sad, but I'm also happy that we can deliver it to you," and Toyoda nodded, saying, "Happy, sad... I feel the same way. We've been on this path for over 10 years, so when I see the word 'completion,' I have some thoughts. It's like a paradox."
Anzai-san seemed to share the same feelings, commenting, "It's really over... Is it really? I still can't quite believe it. It started with my first year, then I became a second and third-year student. I feel so fortunate, and I'm grateful to have fans who have walked alongside me, so it feels like I've had another youth."
Tomatsu said, "I'm so happy. I haven't been involved for as long as the other four (Kurosawa and the others), but each episode is so rich in content that it felt like I was walking through my youth alongside them. I'm so glad that everyone will be able to watch it. I want to run through to the very end with them."
Sotoyuki and Kodama performed songs from the film live. Kodama performed "Crescent Moon Dance," Sotoyuki performed "Sound! Euphonium," and Sotoyuki and Kodama performed "A Year's Poem ~For Wind Orchestra~" together, which seemed to move Kurosawa and the others.
"Sound! Euphonium" is set in the brass band club of Kitauji High School and depicts the growth of the band members, including euphonium player Kumiko Oumae. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2015, the second season from October to December 2016, and the third season from April to July 2024. "The Final Movement" is a polished version of cuts from the third season of the TV anime, with many new scenes added. The first part will be released on April 24th.
