It has been revealed that Kyoko Hikawa's popular manga "Kanata kara," which was serialized in "LaLa" (Hakusensha) from 1991 to 2002, will be adapted into a TV anime in 2026. The manga is an isekai fantasy manga that has sold over 4 million copies in total and won the "Seiun Award," which is given to the most talked-about science fiction works of the year. The anime will be adapted in the milestone year marking the 35th anniversary of the start of its serialization. The anime will be directed by Noriyuki Abe, who has worked on "Yu Yu Hakusho," "BLEACH," and "The Heroic Legend of Arslan."
One day, Noriko is transported to another world, where she is rescued by the taciturn warrior Isaac. As the two travel through this new world together, they begin to fall in love... This is the story. Eventually, it is revealed that Noriko is the one who will awaken the Heavenly Demon, a prophetic being.
The original author, Hikawa, commented, "In the 20 years since the end of the serialization, 'Kanata kara' has received the most responses from readers, and there have been intermittent requests for an anime adaptation. Now, it has finally been decided that this will be made a reality. I hope that everyone, including myself, will enjoy it."
Director Abe said, "I am very excited to be able to animate this timeless masterpiece for the first time. The story of Isaac and Noriko, who are tossed about by the vortex of an invisible, vast world, and yet earnestly nurture their bond and love, will feel very fresh in this day and age. I want to portray the desperation of these two, which we are in danger of forgetting, in a way that is very immersive."
