NHK's documentary program "Another Stories: Turning Points of Fate" (NHK BS) will air "The Century's Excavation Special! The Frenzy and Temptation of Ancient Romance" on March 18th at 9pm. The program will cover the discovery of the "Asuka Beauty" that astonished all of Japan, the Yoshinogari ruins that sparked the Yamatai Kingdom debate, and the Paleolithic forgery incident, unearthing the human drama caught between the frenzy and temptation of archaeological excavations.
The "Asuka Beauty" mural, dating back approximately 1300 years and hailed as the greatest excavation of the Showa era, captivated the nation. Although severely deteriorated, the combined wisdom of experts led to its successful preservation. The Yoshinogari ruins, which sparked the Yamatai Kingdom debate, escaped industrial park development thanks to the dedication of researchers and a fierce competition for media scoops.
Furthermore, there was the "Hand of God" incident that shook the archaeological world. Why did this fabrication that rocked all of Japan occur...?
The program's navigator is Nanako Matsushima, and the narration is provided by Gaku Hamada.
