It has been announced that "TANK CHAIR," a manga by Manabu Yashiro currently serialized in "Monthly Shonen Sirius" (Kodansha), will be adapted into a TV anime and will air in the fall of 2026. Naohiro "Tady" Yoshihira and Hiroaki Ando will serve as directors, with Yoshihira handling series composition and scriptwriting, and Ando also writing the script. Polygon Pictures will produce the animation. A teaser visual depicting the protagonist who freely manipulates a modified wheelchair called a "tank chair" and annihilates enemies with overwhelming combat power, as well as a teaser PV consisting of footage that blends intense action with a pop worldview, have also been released.
The story follows Taira Nagi, the strongest assassin, who falls unconscious after protecting his sister from a bullet, and begins rehabilitation. Nagi has a unique constitution where he briefly regains consciousness when someone tries to kill him, and in order to fully awaken his powers, his sister Shizuka takes him along to rehabilitate against formidable opponents. The series has sold over 1 million copies worldwide.
◇Comment from the original author, Manabu Yashiro
Complex mechanics, bizarre monsters, cluttered cities, absurd action... I love that kind of thing. And "TANK CHAIR" does all of that. But I always thought, "It'll be so hard to animate, there's no way it'll ever be made into an anime..." But! The people at Polygon Pictures did it!! Directors Tady and Ando, along with the rest of the staff, have brought the essence of the original work to life with incredible passion and technical skill. Nagi, Shizuka, Radio, Naozumi, Touko, Uzu, Sensei... they're all so cute and cool. Please look forward to "TANK CHAIR" as it wreaks havoc across the screen.

Nagi, riding in a heavily modified wheelchair, takes on the most ruthless assassins! I still remember the excitement and dizzying feeling I had when I first encountered the original work, which had such an incredible impact. This anime has been a collaborative effort with the original author, Yashiro-sensei, up to this point. And above all, this work is a story of the bonds woven by various siblings. As a brother and a sister, the unbreakable bond that was born from the time they spent living together. They don't bother to put it into words because it's a little embarrassing, but they always think of each other somewhere deep down. Nagi and Shizuka are tossed about by fate in a desolate dystopia. The characters are just as unique and somewhat strange as Nagi and Shizuka. It is also a story of imperfect characters who try their best to live. Above all, it is unique yet universal. It is comical and pop, yet somehow scary and bleak!? It will make you laugh out loud, yet it is also very serious. Please enjoy this unique and intense drama unlike anything you've seen before.
◇Comment from director/screenwriter Hiroaki Ando
I've stumbled upon something incredible. The dark hero "TANK CHAIR". Set on the lawless island of Kijojima, it delivers bloody, violent action. It depicts the bond between the protagonists, siblings Nagi and Shizuka. But that's not the only bond it portrays. It depicts love, friendship, fate, curses, etc., including everyone surrounding the protagonists, encompassing both positive and negative aspects. Yashiro Manabu is incredible. The more you read, the more you realize how condensed the world and relationships are in "TANK CHAIR". Based on that original work, the cast and staff are working together to create an anime that will add even more appeal. Keep your eyes peeled and wait for further updates! Because even those of us making it are amazed.
◇Comment from character designer Yuuki Moriyama
I'm so happy that the time has finally come to announce the anime adaptation of "Tank Chair." When I first read the work, I was struck by the individuality of Look. The vibrant colors and the presence of characters I'd never seen before were incredible. Just as the protagonist Nagi awakens, I felt a jolt of lightning in my brain. As a character designer, I've taken a different approach than in my previous works. The setting is also incredibly unique, so I focused on matching the worldview and aimed to create an expression that would fill the screen with Yashiro-sensei's sensibilities. In the early stages of production, we created various visuals while exploring different options with the director, production designer, and art director, and I think that the fact that the whole team was on the same page is reflected in the work. It's a work that possesses both delicacy and energy, so I hope you'll enjoy it intuitively without thinking too deeply about it!
◇Comment from production designer Kazuma Teshigawara
Production design might be an unfamiliar term, but it's a role that involves working closely with the director to oversee the visual aspects of the work, including the worldview and style. "Tank Chair" features an assassin as the protagonist and is set in the dilapidated city of Kijojima, a potentially bleak theme, yet the world depicted by Yashiro-sensei is incredibly colorful, graphical, and leaves a very vivid impression. We really wanted to express this impact of color in the anime! So, we put a lot of effort into the colors in this work. We hope it will be a memorable work for everyone.
◇Comment from musician Masaru Yokoyama
The "darkness," "colorfulness," and raw "anger" of "TANK CHAIR." Under the direction of Tady, we've created music that bounces and rages. Experience the quiet world in which Nagi and Shizuka live, and the overwhelming sense of lawlessness that lies beneath it, through sound as well as the visuals.
