The American film "Red Sonja," directed by M.J. Bassett and inspired by classic heroic fantasy, will be released on May 8th. The bikini armor outfit worn by the female warrior Sonja, played by Matilda Lutz, has just been unveiled.
"Red Sonja" is a fantasy series featuring the red-haired warrior Sonja, originating from Robert E. Howard's heroic fantasy "Conan the Barbarian" series. It was later adapted into a comic book by Marvel Comics in the 1970s and became a popular film in 1985 starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The story takes place in the prehistoric era of Hyboria. Sonia (Matilda Lutz), a female warrior who lost her homeland to an invasion by a barbarian king, was living quietly in the forests of Hyrkania. But when something strange happens in the forest, she becomes entangled in the machinations of Emperor Draygan (Robert Sheehan), who is expanding his power by ravaging nature. Captured, Sonia is sent to the arena in the capital city and forced to fight to the death against monsters alongside other imprisoned warriors known as Damnatis. Amidst a harsh fate, her counterattack is about to begin...
The bikini armor has become Red Sonja's iconic costume in manga and figures, and its impactful design led to it being seen in numerous other works in Japan, including "Dragon Quest III" and "One Piece."
The released footage shows Sonia, who has been captured and sent to the arena, facing the first day of a grueling battle. Sonia tells the craftsman what weapon she wants, but is given a wooden sword and shield, and a silver bikini armor. Sonia is speechless at the inadequate equipment, but she dons it all and makes a grand entrance into the arena...and that's how the story unfolds.
