On April 24th, Friday Road Show (Nippon Television Network, Fridays at 9 PM) will broadcast "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006, USA), the first film in the series and Anne Hathaway's breakout role, to commemorate the simultaneous US-Japan release of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" (May 1st).
Andrea (Anne Hathaway, voiced by Sanae Kobayashi) graduated from university and came to New York aiming to become a journalist. Despite having no interest in fashion, she landed a job that women all over the world would die for: assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep, voiced by Mari Natsuki), editor-in-chief of the prestigious fashion magazine "Runway." However, it was a "terrifying position."
Miranda's demands are high-level, her cell phone rings non-stop from morning till night, and she receives tyrannical orders. On top of that, she's harshly criticized with "zero sense!", and Andy learns that this industry isn't something you can survive on with just hard work and motivation. Her personal life falls apart; she can't celebrate her boyfriend's birthday, and her friends have grown tired of her.
Next week, on Friday, May 1st, Friday Road Show will broadcast Studio Ghibli's animated film "Whisper of the Heart" (1995) uncut and with an extended 25-minute runtime.
