NHK General's "The Butterfly Effect of Images" (Mondays at 10 PM) will air "Overseas Chinese: The World's Largest Immigrant Group" on April 13th. The overseas Chinese, or ethnic Chinese, who left China to seek new lands across the sea and built new lives and survived in various countries, are now said to number 60 million. The program traces the record of this world's largest immigrant group, who pursued their dreams of prosperity.
"The world is home." Wherever the Chinese diaspora go in the world, they have built resilient lives in new lands and become a major presence globally. Their activities span various fields: business leaders of the world's most valuable companies, Hollywood movie stars, and rising stars in the music world. On the other hand, the existence of the Chinese diaspora reflects China's turbulent history. Whenever major changes such as wars and incidents occurred, people appeared across the seas seeking new lands. This program introduces the history of the Chinese diaspora's endless journey.
