Following the release on July 3rd of "THE ORIGIN OF ULTRAMAN," a documentary film commemorating the 60th anniversary of the tokusatsu drama series "Ultraman," world-renowned film director Guillermo del Toro, an Academy Award-winning director and a self-proclaimed fan of the "Ultraman" series, sent a video message. Del Toro also appears in the film as a "witness."
In a video he filmed himself, Del Toro greeted viewers warmly, saying, "Hello, hello, hello. Hello, hello." He continued, "Let me tell you how much Ultraman means to people not only in Japan but all over the world," expressing his feelings about Ultraman in his own words. "Ultraman is like an international god, a hero to so many children who grew up in Latin America and Europe," he said.
"THE ORIGIN OF ULTRAMAN" is a project conceived by Hirokazu Kore-eda, the film director known for works such as "Shoplifters." A stellar lineup of creators, including Guillermo del Toro, Kore-eda, Hideo Kojima, Hideaki Anno Anno, Shinji Higuchi, and Nicolas Winding Refn, will share their unique perspectives as "witnesses," delving into the question, "What is Ultraman?" In addition to testimonies from Susumu Kurobe, who played Hayata, Hiroko Sakurai, who played Fuji, and Sandayu Dokumamushi, who played Arashi, the film also includes testimonies from the production staff at the time, unraveling the origins of Ultraman from multiple angles.
