The popular anime series "Space Battleship Yamato" and "Gundam" have collaborated. The life-sized Space Battleship Yamato in Odaiba, Tokyo, appeared in the sixth chapter, "The Blue Labyrinth," of "Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199," the latest installment in the remake series of "Space Battleship Yamato." At the end of the fifth chapter, "The Heated Galactic War,"the Space Battleship Yamato crossed the spacetime node and arrived not in the future, but in Tokyo in 2026. The sixth chapter depicted scenes of the Yamato flying over Tokyo, passing by the life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue, Tokyo Skytree, and the statue of Saigo Takamori in Ueno.
The life-size Unicorn Gundam statue is a replica of the Unicorn Gundam Unit 1 from the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam UC (Unicorn)," standing approximately 19.7 meters tall and weighing about 49 tons. It has been on display in Odaiba, Tokyo since September 2017, and will be taken off display at the end of August. Harutoshi Fukui wrote the story for "Mobile Suit Gundam UC," and he also served as the general director for "Yamato 3199." This connection led to the unexpected collaboration between the "Space Battleship Yamato" series and the "Gundam" series.
A collaborative visual between "Yamato 3199" and the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue has also been released. The visual was drawn by Kia Asamiya, who is in charge of the image drawings for "Yamato 3199". The opening video of the sixth chapter of "Yamato 3199," which features the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue and other elements, has also been released on YouTube.
"Yamato 3199" is a reinterpretation and reconstruction of "Be Forever Yamato" and "Space Battleship Yamato III." Fukui serves as the general director, and is also in charge of series composition and scriptwriting. Fukui previously handled series composition and scriptwriting for the remake series "Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love" and "Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Voyage," and is now serving as general director for this latest installment. The series consists of seven chapters, with the sixth chapter, "The Blue Labyrinth," showing from June 26th. The final chapter, the seventh chapter, "The Rainbow-Colored Reincarnation," will be shown from October 30th.
