The latest theatrical film in the popular anime series " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba," based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, titled " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc - Akaza's Return," has surpassed 117.9 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue, including in Japan, and attracted over 98.52 million viewers. This marks the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time worldwide and places it 7th in total worldwide box office revenue for films released in 2025.
"The Infinity Castle Arc : Akaza's Return" premiered on July 18, 2025, in 452 theaters, surpassing the scale of "The Mugen Train," which was released in 2020 and became the highest-grossing film in Japanese history with approximately 40.4 billion yen in box office revenue. In Japan, it was the fastest film to surpass 10 billion, 20 billion, and 30 billion yen in box office revenue, and in the 266 days until its final screening on April Getsuku(excluding some theaters), it had surpassed 40.2 billion yen in box office revenue and attracted over 27.45 million viewers. It was only the second film in Japanese film history to surpass 40 billion yen in box office revenue. Overseas, it was released sequentially in 157 countries and regions excluding Japan starting in August 2025.
"Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Kimetsu no Yaiba" tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, whose family is killed by demons, and who joins the Demon Slaying Corps in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has been transformed into a demon, back into a human. The original manga was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 2016 to 2020. The comics have sold over 220 million copies worldwide.
The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc" aired from April to September 2019, and the theatrical film "Mugen Train" was released in October 2020. "Entertainment District Arc" aired from December 2021 to February 2022, "Swordsmith Village Arc" from April to June 2023, and "Hashira Training Arc" from May to June 2024. "Infinity Castle Arc" is a trilogy, and the release date for "Chapter Two" has not yet been announced.
