"Human Gourmet: Omoumai-ten" (Chukyo TV/Nippon TV, Tuesdays at 7pm) is a variety show that introduces "surprising restaurants" that go beyond imagination. On March 17th, they will be showcasing a restaurant in Kumamoto City run by a fun parent-child duo who call each other by their mysterious foreign names: "Catherine," "Robert," and "Robin."
When it's time to pay, my mother will crack a hearty joke, saying, "Your change is 1 trillion yen!", and the restaurant is always filled with laughter. The "Hormone Stew Set Meal" (780 yen, lunch price), which has remained unchanged for 50 years since the restaurant opened, has a melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes it hard to stop eating rice. Other dishes include the "Chicken Fillet and Cheese Cutlet Set Meal" (968 yen, lunch price) topped with a huge cutlet, and the "Seafood Chanpon" (990 yen) packed with ingredients, all guaranteed to grab your stomach.
The most distinctive dish is the "Omdora Curry" (1,485 yen). It is made by simmering oxtail and fruit for four days until the thick roux is so thick that the meat fibers disappear. The son says, "I wanted to preserve this flavor even if it meant quitting my job." The father makes it with a frown on his face, and we learn about the shocking cooking process.
The show will be hosted by comedian Hiromi, and hosted by comedy trio Baiking's Eiji Kotoge. Guests include comedian Hikaru Ijuin, popular group GENERATIONS' Ryuto Kazuhara, and Hinatazaka46's Kaho Fujishima and Haruka Yamashita.
