It has been revealed that a side story to the TBS drama series "Until My T-Shirt Drys" (Fridays at 10 PM), starring Yu Aoi, which starts on July 10th, will be streamed on TVer. The side story will star Fumiya Takahashi, who also appears in the main series, and will depict a small "secret moment" at the coffee shop where Naoto, played by Takahashi, works.
"Until the T-Shirt Drys" is a completely original story by screenwriter Miku Ubukata, known for hit works such as "silent" (Fuji TV), and this is her first time writing for a TBS drama. It depicts the "love" and "secrets" of two couples who are involved in a certain accident. The director is Hiroyasu Doi, who has worked on numerous hit dramas and films, including the movie "We Made a Beautiful Bouquet" (2021).
This marks Aoi's first leading role in a terrestrial television drama series in 18 years, since "Osen" (Nippon Television). It is also her first leading role on the TBS network. Other cast members announced include Ayumu Nakajima, Fumiya Takahashi, Kaho, and Kenichi Matsuyama.
In this film, Takahashi plays Naoto, an employee at the coffee shop "Hikouki" owned by Mitsuru (Matsuyama). At first glance, he seems sociable, but in reality, he is a 28-year-old cold, low-energy man who has avoided deep involvement with people and has lived his life maintaining a certain distance from others.
Ubukata is also in charge of the script for the side stories. In the first episode, "Episode 1.5," Kaneda, a regular customer played by Ibu Masato, visits the coffee shop "Hikouki." Through casual conversation, Naoto's past and a small secret of the coffee shop "Hikouki" that Kaneda knows will be revealed, and characters from the main story are also scheduled to appear in future episodes.
The side story for "Until the T-shirt Dry" will be exclusively streamed on TVer after the broadcast of the first episode of the main series, which starts at 10 PM on July 10th.
◇Comment from Fumiya Takahashi
I am very happy that Ms. Ubukata will be creating a completely original story that will depict Naoto's very own coffee shop, "Hikouki" (Airplane).
The script for this side story is central to my portrayal of Naoto. It carefully depicts what kind of person Naoto is, how he met Mitsuru, and how he ended up here. It allowed me to re-examine the character of Naoto.
This side story is packed with glimpses into Naoto's personality that can only be seen when he's alone, and the feelings he can only share with his regular customers—things that are woven behind the scenes of the main story. As I act, I feel like I'm growing together with Naoto.
The main story of "Until the T-Shirt Drys" is delicate yet intense, a work that will leave you wanting more. I hope this side story will fill in the small gaps in the main story and give you an opportunity to deepen your appreciation for the work.
I hope you'll enjoy it along with the main story.
Thank you in advance! And please look forward to it!
