Actress Marika Ito will appear in the NHK program "Personification Drama: Defendant is Emo" (General Channel), which will air on June 23rd at 11pm. In the new installment of the "Personification Drama: Defendant" series, a courtroom drama in which personified objects and events take place, Ito will play the character "emoi," an adjective that is frequently used by young people to express an indescribable emotion.
Ito commented, "I wonder when I started using the word 'emo' so casually. By playing an emo character this time, I feel like I've been able to learn more about emotions and the depth of words. Please take a look at the thoughts and histories behind each of these unique words. Japanese is so emo..."
This film is a courtroom drama in which personified words clash over the origins, history, and usage of each word, sparking debates over "beautiful Japanese" and "the correctness of language." The adjectives that have been used since ancient times, such as "setsunai" (written by Norihiko Tsukuda), "uruwashii" (written by Mizume Ito), and "natsukashii" (written by Ari Miyari), sue "emoi" for "violating the Anti-Monopoly Act on Expression of Emotions." Behind the scenes, the long-standing feud between the defense attorney (Aki Asakura) and the prosecutor (Satoshi Kanada) unfolds, and the situation takes a dramatic turn when "that adjective" (Ryuji Harada), which was once a sensation, takes the stand as witness.
Appearing as spectators watching the trial unfold are Anna Murashige, who frequently uses the word "emoi" on social media, and Takushi Tanaka of "Ungirls," who dislikes the overuse of the word "emoi."
