On May 29th, the release date of the latest animated film in the popular "Tom and Jerry" series, "Tom and Jerry: The Magic Compass of Time" (distributed by Clockworks), a large number of still images featuring the clumsy yet lovable Tom, who is loved all over the world, were released.
"Tom and Jerry" is a slapstick comedy short animated series featuring the world's most famous cat, Tom, and mouse, Jerry, as they engage in all sorts of chases in each episode. It celebrated its 85th anniversary in 2025.
The latest theatrical film in the series, the first to be fully 3DCG, tells the story of Tom and Jerry, who are playing their usual game of chase in a museum. Suddenly, they accidentally activate an ancient artifact on display, the "Star Compass," and are transported through time in a dazzling light. They arrive in the "Golden City," a different world thousands of years in the past, inhabited by a phoenix sage and unique guardian beasts. There, they find themselves in danger from the evil Rat King, who seeks to conquer the world with the power of the compass. In order to return to their own time, Tom and Jerry call a temporary truce and embark on a grand adventure as a duo in the face of an unprecedented crisis...
Tom is a clumsy but somehow endearing character who never gives up no matter what happens to him. In this film, he gets caught up in surprising events with Jerry and the inhabitants of another world, but he doesn't get discouraged and transforms any predicament into something positive (?), providing laughs as a lovable character.
The newly released stills show Tom working hard as a security guard at a museum exhibiting a magical compass. There are comical scenes of him aiming a fire extinguisher at Jerry, who appears to be an intruder, and a scene where, after time-traveling using the magic, he flies through the sky as if riding a broomstick thanks to the force of the fire extinguisher's spray, giving viewers a glimpse into the film's outrageous plot.
There were scenes where I soared through the sky on the Phoenix Immortal (voiced by Takuya Sato) and his Phoenix companion Feeny (voiced by Yohei Tadano), who live in the Golden City I time-traveled to, and there was also a moment when I saw the glamorous and dignified Peking Opera actress Jade (voiced by Yurika Kubo) and my eyes turned into hearts, and I was instantly captivated.
The video captures Tom's determined expression as he prepares to confront the evil Rat King, who, with his bulging, muscular physique, attempts to conquer the world with the power of a compass, as well as his brave face as he prepares to fight him with a massive amount of firecrackers.
Even in the Golden City they've traveled to, Tom and Jerry continue their usual chase, but Tom cleverly gives Jerry a piggyback ride and they wave together, showing that they're still "fighting amicably." Experience laughter, excitement, and thrills on the big screen in the theater.
