A still from "Extra Milky☆Subway Local Train to the Theater," an extended version of the theatrical film "Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway," has been released. The still shows Officer Asami standing with her hands on her hips in front of Kurt and Max. This scene will be shown as a post-credits scene of just under a minute after the end credits.
It was also announced that a new original mini-manga by Kono Don, the creator of the manga version of "Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway," will be distributed starting June 12th as a gift for attendees of the "extra train service."
A talk event featuring director Yohei Kameyama and composer/sound designer Kohei Doi, who was in charge of the sound design, will be held on June 13th at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills (Minato-ku, Tokyo).
The theatrical film "Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway: Local Train to the Theater" is a re-edited version of the 12-episode short anime series with added new scenes, and an "extended service" will include even more new scenes. In addition to the regular version, MX4D and 4DX versions will be screened from June 12th.
The film was released on February 6th and has become a long-running hit, attracting over 410,000 viewers and grossing over 550 million yen.
"Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway" is a sequel to "Milky☆Highway," a short 3D animation released on YouTube in 2022 as a graduation project by Yohei Kameyama, who was a student at a film school at the time. Chiharu, a genetically enhanced human, and Makina, a cyborg, who were arrested for violating the Galactic Road Traffic Act, are tasked with cleaning the interplanetary train "Milky☆Subway" as a volunteer activity, but become embroiled in a major incident when the train suddenly begins to run out of control. Its nostalgic visuals and unique, natural dialogue have made it popular, and it has surpassed 280 million total views on YouTube.
