It was revealed on May 20th that the popular game "Touken Ranbu ONLINE" will be adapted into Noh and Kyogen plays. The new stage production, "Noh Kyogen Touken Ranbu Touken Ranbu Ranbu" with the traditional Japanese performing arts of Noh and Kyogen. The first performance will be held on July 28th and 29th at the National Noh Theatre (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo), and will feature the Touken Danshi characters Higekiri and Hizamaru. Following the announcement of the performance, special collaboration illustrations of the Touken Danshi drawn by manga artists Moto Hagio, Ryoko Yamagishi, and Waki Yamato were released. Hagio drew Higekiri and Hizamaru, Yamato drew Kogitsunemaru, and Yamagishi drew a mysterious Touken Danshi, all drawn as "Noh Kyogen Touken Ranbu" versions of the Touken Danshi, inspired by Noh, Kyogen, and the Touken Danshi characters.
"Noh Kyogen Touken Ranbu" features lyrics by Living National Treasure Bunzo Otsuki and direction by Wakagi Efu. Kyogen performer Mansai Nomura will be supervising the production. Yuichi Otsuki will play the role of Hizamaru and Yuki Nomura will play the role of Higekiri.
The play will be performed at the National Noh Theatre on July 28th and 29th, and August 24th to 26th, and at the Kongo Noh Theatre (Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto) on September 11th and 12th.
"Touken Ranbu ONLINE" is a sword-training simulation game where players raise and lead "Touken Danshi," famous swords transformed into warriors, to fight and protect history. DMM GAMES handles development and operation, while Nitroplus is in charge of the world setting, scenario, and character design. The PC browser version launched in 2015, and the smartphone app service started in 2016. As of May 2026, the total number of users has exceeded 15 million.
The musical "Touken Ranbu" began in 2015, followed by the stage play "Touken Ranbu" in 2016. The TV anime "Touken Ranbu-Hanamaru-" aired from 2016, and "Katsugeki Touken Ranbu" aired in 2017. The kabuki play "Touken Ranbu" began in July 2023, and the music live project "Pure Touken Danshi" began in October 2024, demonstrating the franchise's multimedia expansion.
