In the 35th episode (aired May 15th) of the NHK Asadora drama series "Kaze,Kaoru " (NHK General, Monday-Saturday, 8:00 AM, etc.), Ai Mikami and Juri Kosaka , what scene captivated viewers the most? We examined the minute-by-minute changes in "attention level" (according to REVISIO, Kanto region, preliminary figures), which indicates the percentage of viewers glued to the screen, and found that the peak was 76.0% at 8:06 AM.
" Kaze,Kaoru" is based on the story of two trained nurses, Chika Ozeki and Masa Suzuki, who graduated from the same nursing school. The drama depicts how these two women struggle with how to interact with patients and doctors, clash with each other, grow as individuals, and eventually become the "ultimate buddy duo." Mikami plays Rin Ichinose, and Uesaka plays Naomi Oya.
The data used is REVISIO's proprietary "Attention Level" index (Kanto region, preliminary figures), which surveys program and commercial viewing habits in 2,000 households in the Kanto region and 600 households in the Kansai region. A dedicated device equipped with a human recognition sensor constantly measures whether people are looking at the television screen, and calculates the percentage of people in front of the television who were paying close attention to the program.
◇Princess Chikako goes to the hospital
In episode 35, Chikako (Yukie Nakama), a member of the Izumi Marquis family, is scheduled to be hospitalized, creating an unusual tension throughout the hospital. Preparations begin throughout the hospital to ensure the success of Chikako's surgery. Meanwhile, Rin (Mikami) and Naomi (Uesaka) are summoned by the hospital director Tada (Michitaka Tsutsui) and the surgical professor Imai (Yuta Furukawa).
The attention level for this day showed a graph with significant ups and downs, but remained relatively high, exceeding 60% for most of the time. Three times, for a total of six minutes, it reached over 70%. The peak was 76.0%, the fourth highest figure in the 35 times so far.
◇The first "mountain" is Naomi's holiday
The first peaks in viewership were at 8:03 AM (74.6%) and 8:04 AM (71.4%). The scene shifts from Rin returning to her internship after her break and working at the hospital, to Naomi, who is on vacation, visiting the tenement house where she used to live, and this is where the 3-minute mark begins. The landlords, Toyo (Yoneko Matsukane) and Kiku (Yuriko Hirooka), greet Naomi and praise her for working at Teito Medical University Hospital, saying "That's amazing," when a mother who had been searching for her child who had gotten separated from her comes to thank the landlord of the tenement house, Kahei (Shio Harumi), for helping her find her child.
At around 8:04 AM, Naomi says to her child, "That's good. Make sure you don't get separated from your mother again," and "She gave birth to you and gave you milk." The mother bows and takes the child away. For Naomi, an orphan who has never known her mother's face, this must have been an event she related to. She takes out a charm that she has had since she was abandoned and begins to examine its contents, and the 8:05 AM mark sees a sharp drop in viewership to around 65%.
◇The calm before the storm?
The price then reversed course at 8:06 AM, reaching its highest point of the day at 76.0%. At 8:07 AM, it maintained a fairly high level of attention at 70.6%.
At around 8:06 AM, Rin is having a pleasant conversation with a patient in a hospital room when she hears a loud noise, presumably from a nurse dropping something. "I found it!" she exclaims, having found what she was looking for, and then hurries off. Something seems to be happening at the hospital. Viewers are also drawn in by the loud noise and curious about what's going on, as the characters move around frantically. The answer begins to become clear in the latter half of the 8:06 AM hour. Many nurses have gathered in a hospital room labeled "Superior Ward," and are frantically rearranging the room. Mansaku (Kazuki Iio), the hospital's janitor, also arrives, carrying a lamp.
Around the 7-minute mark, key personnel within the hospital are gathered and informed of Chikako's hospitalization. The explanation is given by surgical assistant, Katsuji Kurokawa (played by Kisei Hirano). Chikako is strongly suspected of having breast cancer, and he strictly instructs the seven nursing trainees "not to do anything on their own." Then, when Chikako finally arrives at the hospital, Tada, Imai, and others all come out to greet her and escort her to her room. Considering what happens next, this scene could be seen as the calm before the storm. Somewhat unexpectedly, this "peak" was the peak of the day.
Afterward, Imai began explaining the future treatment plan to Chikako in the hospital room. Although the viewer engagement rate was in the 69% range, just below 70%, it seems that viewers have a high level of interest in "Princess Chikako."
◇Princess Chikako is completely selfish and out of control.
The third time the viewership rating exceeded 70% was at 8:11 AM (72.6%) and 8:12 AM (73.5%). At 8:11 AM, Chikako repeatedly said, "Please let someone else take over," every time a nurse entered the room and did something. When Imai rushed into the hospital room, Chikako told him, "I'd like to be discharged." When he asked why, she replied, "The view from the window isn't good." She was being completely spoiled.
Nakama-san previously played the role of Countess Renko in the Asadora"Hanako to Anne," and her haughty attitude and subsequent tumultuous life garnered a great deal of attention. These proud characters suit Nakama-san perfectly. I have a feeling she'll captivate viewers again this time.
Around the 12-minute mark, the hospital director Tada, surgical professor Imai, and surgical assistant professor Fujita (Ryotaro Sakaguchi) discuss how to deal with Chikako's tantrums. Imai is concerned that it would be a disgrace to the hospital if she were discharged without surgery, but Tada dismisses this, saying that even if surgery is performed, the success rate is only about 20%. Upon hearing this, Fujita says, "That's troublesome," and then proposes something along the lines of, "How about this?" This exchange must have been intriguing for viewers as well.
After this, Burns (Emma Howard) calls Rin and Naomi, who were nursing in the hospital room, and the three of them head to the director's office. It seems they were instructed to nurse Chikako. However, that scene is not shown, and the episode ends with Naomi firmly saying, "Therefore, I must decline. Ichinose Rin does not yet have the skills to nurse a marchioness." It's an intriguing ending that leaves us wondering what will happen next week. The viewership ratings were in the 67% range for both 8:13 and 8:14 AM, a slight decrease, but still relatively high as the episode ended. (Text by Hiroki Sasamoto/MANTANWEB)
