The special edition of the magazine "anan" (Magazine House), issue 2495, featuring the popular pro-gamer group "Black Onyx" from the anime "Super Princess Kaguya!" on its cover, went on sale on May 13th and has been so well-received that it will be reprinted. Online bookstores quickly sold out of the issue from the start of pre-orders, and bookstores and convenience stores also quickly ran out of stock after its release, leading to an emergency decision to reprint it. This special edition commemorates the long-running success of "Super Princess Kaguya!", and the back cover features Kaguya, Sakayori Iroha, and Tsukimi Yachiyo in swimsuit-style outfits.
In recent years, "anan" has released multiple cover variations for each issue as special editions. The editorial department states, "As special editions that capture the moments when various cultures and trends are in motion, we have had a wide range of people grace the cover. The reprinting of a special edition can truly be said to be the embodiment of the moment when a movement is in motion." This will be the fourth time that a special edition has been reprinted, following "PLAVE" (No. 2425 / released December 4, 2024, overseas reprint), "Chiikawa" (No. 2429 / released January 8, 2025), and Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters (No. 2440 / released March 26, 2025).
Issue 2495 features a special on "Super Princess Kaguya!", including interviews with the staff and cast. Yuuko Yuko Natsuyoshi, who plays Kaguya, Anna Nagase, who plays Iroha, and Saori Hayami, who plays Yachiyo, as well as Miyu Irino, Yuma Uchida, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who played members of "Black Onyx," and director Yamashita, all spoke about the work. A special sticker set featuring the "adorable" characters from the film is included as a bonus.
"Super Princess Kaguya!" is an original anime, the first feature-length directorial work by Shingo Yamashita, who has worked on the opening sequences for popular anime such as the first season of "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man." It premiered as a "Netflix movie" on January 22nd, and due to its success, it began theatrical release on February 20th. It has become an exceptional hit for a film that premiered on Netflix, grossing over 2 billion yen and attracting over 1.02 million viewers.
In this "music anime" inspired by the classic "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," 17-year-old high school girl Iroha Sakayori, who is juggling part-time jobs and schoolwork, encounters Kaguya, who emerges from a gaming-themed utility pole that glows in seven colors. The anime was produced by Studio Colorido, known for works such as "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromato, led by director Yamashita. A host of talented Vocaloid producers, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot, provided the music.
