Actress Erika Toda appeared at a launch event for the Netflix series "You're Going to Hell" held in Tokyo on April 14th. The series depicts the turbulent life of fortune teller Kazuko Hosoki, who passed away in 2021, and Toda, who plays the lead role of Hosoki, candidly admitted that she "doesn't have confidence in her performance this time."
Toda appeared in a gold dress that boldly exposed her back. Reflecting on playing Hosoki, who was also known as the Empress, from the age of 17 to 66, she said, "It was a role that I continued to experiment with right up until the very end of filming. Director Takimoto (Tomoyuki) gave me a lot of direction and helped me create the image of Kazuko in this drama, and I am truly grateful to him. It was a six-month period in which I was strongly encouraged again and again."
Regarding playing the well-known Hosoki, she said, "I was really intimidated by how heavy the responsibility was," and admitted that there were times when she felt anxious. However, after sharing her thoughts with art director Mitsuo Harada, she said, "It is precisely because I felt anxious that I was able to find the next step, and through this experience, I felt that I can grow as a person." She added, "Everyone's passion was incredible, and this is a work that was created by pouring their hearts and souls into it. I hope that we can convey that passion, and I hope that people can forget about all that and simply enjoy the drama."
The event featured appearances by Sairi Ito, Toma Ikuta, Toko Miura, Ayumu Nakajima, Gaku Hosokawa, and director Takimoto. Comedian Razor Ramon HG, who appears in the film as himself, also made a guest appearance.
"You're Going to Hell" depicts the turbulent life of Kazuko Hosoki, who sparked a fortune-telling boom with her uniquely developed Six-Star Astrology and striking phrases like "Great Calamity Period" and "You're going to hell!". Toda plays Hosoki from age 17 to 66, and through the perspective of writer Minori Uozumi, played by Ito, the extraordinary figure of "Kazuko Hosoki" is gradually revealed, showing how she was shaped. It will be exclusively streamed worldwide on Netflix starting April 27th.
