Actress Anna Umemiya, who is battling breast cancer, and her husband, art director Yasunori Yotsugi, made a live appearance on April 12th on ABEMA's 10th anniversary special program "30-Hour Limit Break Festival," in a segment called "Women Who Can't Stay Silent: A Live Confession of Their Turbulent Live Lives."
The couple made headlines last May when they had a "surprise marriage" just 10 days after meeting. The program featured a close look at their newlywed life.
Their life together began in a luxury residence in a prime location in the city center, where Yotsugi had originally lived alone. Seeing the neatly arranged towels set out for guests, Umemiya confessed her feelings at the time, saying, "I thought, 'This person is impossible.'" She continued, "My husband was 60 and I was 53. When two people who were already established decided to live together, how to compromise has always been our theme."
While Yotsugi tries to keep his belongings to a minimum, Umemiya's closet is piled high with clothes. In the kitchen, Umemiya opens bags without using scissors and leaves them half-open, prompting Yotsugi to exclaim, "I hate this kind of thing!"
The contrasting values of Mr. Yotsugi, who is meticulous and has a minimalist aesthetic sense, and Ms. Umemiya, who has a generous personality, were glimpsed, and the lighthearted banter between the couple, which unfolded at a good pace, drew comments from the studio's MCs such as "How lovely!" and "They're such a good match!"
Towards the end of the video, the topic of Anna's late father, Tatsuo Umemiya, came up. When asked by a staff member, "What do you think your father would have said if you had told him about your marriage?", she laughed and replied, "I think he would have said, 'Yotsugu, stay away from Anna.'"
On the other hand, when asked, "What would you do if someone told you to stop calling her Anna?", Yotsugi immediately replied, "I wouldn't want that, because I like her." The MCs were thrilled, exclaiming, "Kyaaa!", "That's so sweet!", and "Isn't Yotsugi being a little too honest?!"
