Aniplex, Live2D, and Drive have released a new illustration for their original TV anime "Kaze wo Tsugumono," which is based on the Shinsengumi. The illustration, titled "Spring," is themed around the seasons, and the "Spring" illustration depicts Hijikata Toshizo, the vice-commander of the Mibu Roshigumi, and Isami Kondo, the commander, sitting on a veranda enjoying cherry blossoms. Next to Kondo, a cat named Kurosuke is sleeping.
A short story titled "Okita's Bruise," written by Yutaka Narui, who is in charge of the script for the film, to accompany the illustrations, has been released on the official website and official social media accounts. It depicts a scene from the daily lives of Okita Soji, Hijikata Toshizo, Kondo Isami, and others.
The film is directed by Tomohiro Kawamura, known for works such as "GAMBA and Friends," with a script by Narui, the playwright who founded the theater group Caramelbox and whose "Tachikawa Jinsuke Series," including the Shinsengumi-themed play "The Inheritor of the Wind," has garnered a large following. Shigeru Kishida of the band Quruli will be in charge of the music. The story follows Tachikawa Jinsuke, who suffers from amnesia, as he is swept up in the turbulent times. It is said to be a "new kind of authentic period drama anime" that fuses Live2D and cel animation.
It will air every Sunday at 11:30 PM starting in January 2027 on the CBC TV/TBS anime block "Agaru Anime". A theatrical preview version will be released in 2026 prior to the broadcast.
