It has been announced that a 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray Disc (BD) and BD set of the 4K remastered version of Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki animated film "Princess Mononoke" will be released on June 24th. The 4K digital remaster, which garnered attention when it was screened in North America in March 2025 and in Japan in October of the same year, will now be released on BD.
The bonus features include footage of a stage greeting with Yoji Matsuda (voice of Ashitaka), Yuriko Ishida (voice of San), and producer Toshio Suzuki.
"Princess Mononoke" explores the theme of coexistence between nature and humanity. Ashitaka, a young man cursed by a god, and San, a girl raised by a wolf spirit, become embroiled in a battle between humans who try to destroy nature and the gods who protect it. Released in 1997, it broke the all-time box office record for Japanese films at the time. To date, it has grossed approximately 21.46 billion yen.
