The final results of the "Worldwide 'Gundam' General Election 2025," a voting project for the popular anime series "Gundam," have been announced, and the fact that the ν Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack) took first place in the worldwide rankings has become a hot topic. ◇High-priced toys also sold out
The "Worldwide 'Gundam' General Election 2025" was a project where people voted for their "favorite Gundam," and included Gundam-type mobile suits from the Universal Century series and Alternative series, as well as any mobile suit bearing the Gundam name. For the first time in a "Gundam" series project, it was supported in 10 languages. High-priced toys such as the "top-of-the-line" Gunpla "PERFECT GRADE UNLEASHED 1/60 ν Gundam" (Bandai Spirits), released in January of this year, and the "ultimate" figure "METAL STRUCTURE Kaitai Shoki RX-93 ν Gundam" (also by Bandai Spirits) have sold out, demonstrating their popularity.
◇A unique and unparalleled personality
The ν Gundam is Amuro Ray's last and most powerful mobile suit, and one of its appeals lies in the dramatic storyline that Amuro, the legendary protagonist, was involved in its design and used it in his final battle against his fated rival, Char Aznable.
While some Gundams boast flashy weaponry and transformation mechanisms, the ν Gundam is characterized by its remarkably simple and solid design. It possesses an understated beauty, and even 38 years after the release of "Char's Counterattack," it still doesn't feel dated. This timelessness is one of the reasons for its enduring popularity.
The presence of the Fin Funnels on the back, which are symbolic of the ν Gundam, is also significant. It is well known that the Fin Funnels were created from the request to "add a cape," and they exude a unique personality that is instantly recognizable, like a knight wearing a cape.
The scene in the climax of "Char's Counterattack" where the ν Gundam attempts to push back the asteroid Axis as it falls towards Earth (the Axis Shock) is a memorable moment in Gundam history. The glow of the Psycho Frame installed in the ν Gundam gave the machine a sense of "mystery."
