It has been announced that Takeshi Konomi's popular tennis manga series, "The Prince of Tennis," will be concluding. To commemorate the series' conclusion, an event titled "The Prince of Tennis Series Conclusion Celebration! Tenipuri Surprise☆Summit" will be held on July 19th at Tokyo International Forum Hall A (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo).
"The Prince of Tennis" was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 1999 to 2008. It depicted the rise of Ryoma Echizen, a tennis prodigy, in the Seishun Academy tennis club, and his growth through battles against rival schools. A new series, "The New Prince of Tennis," has been serialized in "Jump SQ." (Shueisha) since 2009. In February of this year, it was announced on Konomi's official X account that there were "only 6 chapters left until the final chapter."
The TV anime series also gained popularity, with "The Prince of Tennis" airing from October 2001 to March 2005, and "The New Prince of Tennis" airing in 2012. The new full 3DCG animated film "Ryoma! The Prince of Tennis: The New Theatrical Version" (directed by Hiroshi Koujina) was released in September 2021, generating considerable buzz. Following "The New Prince of Tennis," "The New Prince of Tennis U-17 WORLD CUP" aired from July to September 2022, marking the first TV series in approximately 10 years, and its sequel, "The New Prince of Tennis U-17 WORLD CUP SEMIFINAL," aired from October to December 2024. A sequel to "SEMIFINAL," "The New Prince of Tennis U-17 WORLD CUP Final Member Deciding Match," will air in the fall of 2026.
The "Tenipuri Surprise Summit," commemorating the completion of the original "The Prince of Tennis" series, will feature the author Konomi, as well as the voice actors from the anime: Junko Minagawa (Ryoma Echizen), Ryotaro Okiayu(Kunimitsu Tezuka), Takayuki Kondo (Shuichiro Oishi), Yuki Kaida (Shusuke Fuji), Junichi Suwabe(Keigo Atobe), and Hidenobu Kiuchi(Yushi Oshitari). Narumi Kawamoto (Takashi Kawamura) and Masaya Onosaka (Takeshi Momoshiro) will serve as MCs.
It was also announced that a special program commemorating the anime's 25th anniversary, titled "Anime 'The Prince of Tennis' Series 25th Anniversary Special," will be streamed live on July 19th at 10 PM.
