It has been announced that a completely new V-Cinema sequel to the tokusatsu drama "Kamen Rider Kabuto" (2006-2007), starring Hiro Mizushima, titled "Kamen Rider Kabuto 20th: The One Who Inherits the Heavens," is in production. As a Toei V-Cinema sequel, it will have a limited theatrical release starting November 6th at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) and other theaters, and will be released on Blu-ray (BD) and DVD on February 10th, 2027.
"Kamen Rider Kabuto" is a story about Kamen Rider Kabuto/Tendo Souji (played by Mizushima), "the man who walks the path of heaven and controls all," and his battles against "Worms," extraterrestrial life forms that mimic humans, and "ZECT," a secret organization that fights against the Worms. All 49 episodes were broadcast on TV Asahi from January 2006 to January 2007. Even now, 20 years after its broadcast, it still enjoys strong popularity, and it came in first place in the fan vote for the "Kamen Rider Movie Project" held this January.
This film is a sequel set 20 years after the TV series. Six main cast members have been announced, and it has been revealed that the original cast from the TV series will be reuniting. Yuki Sato will play Kamen Rider Gatack/Arata Kagami, a former ZECT member who became a police officer; Hidenori Tokuyama will play Kamen Rider Zabi/Sou Yaguruma, the first captain of ZECT's elite "Shadow"; Kazuki Kato Kazama, a makeup artist; Tomohisa Yuge will play Masato Mishima, who was supposed to have been defeated by Kabuto and Gatack in the final episode; Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi will play Shuichi Tadokoro, the strict team leader of ZECT; and Hirotaro Honda will play Riku Kagami, Arata's father and the head of ZECT. It has not yet been announced whether Mizushima will be appearing.
A teaser visual and a video featuring comments from Sato, Tokuyama, and Kato have also been released. The visual shows Kamen Rider Gatack and an original white Kamen Rider standing side by side amidst the skyscrapers of Shibuya. The tagline reads, "Will humanity or the Worms inherit the heavens?", hinting that the battle against the Worms, which was thought to be over, will begin again.
