It was announced on March 28th that AnimeJapan, one of the world's largest anime events, will be held in Osaka in 2027 and 2028. AnimeJapan, with its slogan "Everything about anime is here," had been held in Tokyo for 13 years since 2014, but will now be held in Osaka for the first time. With the support of the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau, the event aims to promote the appeal of anime to the world from Osaka and strengthen the anime-centric content industry in Japan.
The AnimeJapan organizing committee announced, "AnimeJapan 2027 and AnimeJapan 2028, which will be the 14th editions, will be held in Osaka, a city that has long flourished as a gateway for international trade and will attract many people from all over the world for the 2025 Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan World Expo, in order to deliver the charm of anime to even more people throughout Japan and around the world."
"To everyone who has attended AnimeJapan in the past, we want to present an even more evolved AnimeJapan. And to those living in Western Japan, the entire organizing committee is working hard to deliver 'surprise' and 'discovery' as the world's largest anime festival. With the slogan 'Everything about anime is here,' we will work together with anime fans from around the world, as well as exhibitors and people involved in the productions, to spread the charm of anime on this new stage in Osaka," they commented.
"AnimeJapan" is an event that was formed in 2014 at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto Ward, Tokyo) by combining the "Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF)" and "Anime Contents Expo (ACE)," which had been separated over the revision of Tokyo's ordinance for the healthy development of youth. Due to measures taken in response to the spread of the new coronavirus, it was canceled in 2020 and held online only in 2021.
AnimeJapan 2025, held in March 2025, attracted approximately 152,400 visitors over its two public days. In 2025, roughly one in ten visitors was from overseas, indicating that many anime fans from around the world gathered there.
The 13th annual "AnimeJapan 2026" will be held from March 28th to 31st. Public days are the 28th and 29th, and business days are the 30th and 31st. The "Family Anime Festa 2026," aimed at families and children, will also be held on the 28th and 29th. There will be over 200 exhibitors in total, showcasing approximately 300 works and featuring over 300 voice actors and staff members.
AnimeJapan 2027 will be held from March 27th to 30th, 2027. The public days, March 27th and 28th, will be held at Intex Osaka (Suminoe-ku, Osaka), while the venue for the business days, March 29th and 30th, is still being finalized. 21 companies and 1 organization, including Aniplex, Animate, Avex Pictures, and KADOKAWA, have announced their participation.
