Hikaru Iwamoto of the popular group "Snow Man" appeared at the opening lineup announcement event for "EX Theater Ariake," a new theater located within "Tokyo Dream Park," a multi-purpose entertainment complex opening in Ariake, Tokyo on March 27th. He revealed that he pays meticulous attention to his diet when preparing for musicals.
Iwamoto will star in the musical "Time Traveler's Wife," which will be performed at the same venue in September. The musical is based on the novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegar, published in the United States in 2003. In Japan, it is also known as the source material for the movie "The Time Traveler's Wife" (released in Japan in 2009). The story revolves around Henry, a man who travels through time and space against his will, and Claire, a woman who meets him and becomes his wife. It depicts the two of them trying to continue choosing each other despite being at the mercy of unpredictable time travel.
On this day, the cast and production staff who will be gracing the opening year took to the stage. Takanori Iwata, who will be starring in the musical "Monty Python's SPAMALOT" to be performed in January 2027, said that this will be his first musical and asked Iwamoto for advice on preparing for the musical.
Iwamoto advises, "This is a personal matter, but musicals burn a lot of calories, so I calculate how much I eat to avoid losing weight, and I think about what I consume along with building up my stamina."
She said that she sometimes loses around 10 kilograms when a performance starts, and explained her approach to getting in shape by saying, "I have a body type that loses weight easily, so I think about what I eat, the amount, and what suits me... I try to be more mindful of what I take in."
Then, Yuichi Fukuda, who is directing "Monty Python's SPAMALOT," asked him, "Don't you lose weight during Snow Man's live performances?" to which he replied, "I don't lose that much weight during Snow Man's live performances. It's nine times the number of members, so I think it's different when I do everything by myself (in a musical)." He then revealed his serious side by saying, "I calculate the approximate number of calories I burn from the rehearsal stage."
