The 11th episode of the NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS (Toyotomi Brothers!)" (NHK General, Sundays at 8pm, etc.), starring actor Taiga Nakano, titled "The Honkoku-ji Incident," aired on March 22nd, and Taiga drama fans reacted to the scene where Matsunaga Hisahide, played by Naoto Takenaka, and Shun Oguri, played by Shun Oguri, meet.
"BROTHERS IN ARMS (Toyotomi Brothers!)" is the 65th Taiga drama. With Toyotomi Hidenaga (Koichiro) as the protagonist, it depicts the miraculous feat of unifying Japan together with his older brother Hideyoshi (Tokichiro) through their strong bond, a success story of dreams and hopes.
In the 11th episode, Nobunaga (Shun Oguri), who has seized control of the Kinai region, gives new orders to Koichiro (Nakano) and Fujikichiro (Sosuke Ikematsu).
Through Matsunaga Hisahide (Naoto Takenaka), a warlord who rules Yamato, the brothers are ordered to have Sakai merchants, including Imai Sokyu (Masato Wada), pay 20,000 kan in war funds. However, the Sakai merchants are all cunning, and the brothers are forced into a difficult situation. Meanwhile, the Miyoshi Three, who want to depose the newly appointed Shogun Yoshiaki (Ukon Onoe), seize the opportunity while Nobunaga is away and attack Honkoku-ji Temple in Kyoto where Yoshiaki is staying...and the story unfolds from there.
In that episode, Hisahide, who claims he was wrongly accused of assassinating the shogun, comes to Nobunaga seeking an audience, and is shown presenting a famous tea utensil as a token of his loyalty.
This scene where Hisahide and Nobunaga meet was previously described by Oguri, who played Nobunaga, as "the first time I'd acted face-to-face with someone since the historical drama 'Hideyoshi,' about 30 years ago. When we were rehearsing on set, my feelings as Shun Oguri Oguri came out before those of Nobunaga. It was deeply moving to be able to act with Takenaka, who played Hideyoshi back then, again."
The "Hideyoshi" from 30 years ago is known for Takenaka playing the main character, Hideyoshi, while Oguri appeared as Sakichi (the young Ishida Mitsunari).
On social media, viewers reacted with comments such as, "Naoto Takenaka and Shun Oguri," and "They're Hideyoshi and Sakichi, after all." Other comments included, "The scene of the former Hideyoshi and Sakichi (the childhood name of Ishida Mitsunari) meeting. After 30 years, they are now appearing together again as Oda Nobunaga and Matsunaga Hisahide. A heartwarming two-shot for fans of historical dramas," and "Today's scene of Nobunaga (the former young Sakichi) and Matsunaga (the former Hideyoshi) reuniting, or rather meeting, was truly heartwarming."
