The title of the sequel to the popular manga "Kingdom," a live-action film adaptation starring actor Kento Yamazaki Yamazaki, has been decided to be "Kingdom: The Battle of Souls" (directed by Shinsuke Sato). It will depict the great battle between Qin and the Six Nations, in which the other nations attack the Qin Kingdom, and the release date has been set for July 17th.
"Kingdom" is a popular manga that has been serialized in the manga magazine "Weekly Young Jump" (Shueisha) since 2006. 75 volumes of the comics have been published, and the total number of copies published has exceeded 110 million (as of April 2025), the first time in the company's history of seinen manga. Set in China's Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, the story follows the exploits of Shin, who aspires to become the greatest general in the world, and King Ei Sei, who later becomes the First Emperor of Qin.
The series has been adapted into four films: "Kingdom" (2019), "Kingdom 2: Faraway Lands" (2022), "Kingdom: Flames of Destiny" (2023), and "Kingdom: Return of the General" (released in 2024), which have attracted a total of 17 million viewers and grossed over 24.5 billion yen.
"Soul Battle" depicts the popular "Coalition Army Arc" from the original work, in which the Qin state is plunged into dire straits when a "Coalition Army" consisting of six nations, led by the mysterious military strategist Li Mu (Shun Oguri Shun), attacks. The Teaser trailer features familiar faces such as the protagonist Shin (Yamazaki), Ei Sei (Ryo Yoshizawa Kanna Hashimoto), as well as the unparalleled boldness of the Qin state, General Hyouko (Etsushi Toyokawa), and the insane warrior Wan Kyoku (Yuki Yamada), whose homeland was once overrun by the Qin state, as well as the back view of a new character clad in white armor.
