It has been announced that the 79th Annual Tony Awards ceremony, which will be held at Radio City Music Hall in New York on June 8th (Japan time), will be broadcast and streamed live on WOWOW. Yoshio Inoue and Emma Miyazawa will team up for the sixth time as program presenters, and Taiga Kyomoto will also appear as a special supporter.
The Tony Awards are given to plays and musicals that opened on Broadway in New York within a year from the end of April of the previous year (this year's period is from April 28, 2025 to April 26, 2026), and are the most prestigious awards in the American theater world. In addition to Best Musical and Best Actor, there are also awards for directors, designers, and other staff members. The awards ceremony is packed with highlights, including opening acts and a number of spectacular performances related to the nominated works.
At last year's Tony Awards, the Korean-made "Maybe Happy Ending" won a total of six awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
WOWOW will broadcast the 79th Tony Awards Ceremony live on June 8th under the title "Live Broadcast! The 79th Tony Awards Ceremony." Related programs include "Taiga Kyomoto: Hello Tony! 2026," with the first half airing on April 26th, and the second half and "Yoshio Inoue x Emma Miyazawa Awards" scheduled for broadcast in May.
