The results of the annual "2026 Manga Ranking for Anime Adaptation" project at AnimeJapan, one of the world's largest anime events, have been announced, with mmk's "The Guy Sitting Next to Me Looks at Me That Way" (Shogakukan) taking first place. This is the ninth time the event has been held, and 48 works were nominated, with the work taking first place out of a total of 222,758 votes.
"The Girl Sitting Next to Me Looks at Me That Way" is a pure love comedy that begins with an "ulterior motive" and is currently being serialized on Shogakukan's web manga service "Sunday Webry." The main character, Ikezawa-kun, has been looking at Eguchi-san, a beautiful girl in his class, with "that kind of look." However, when he finds out that Eguchi-san is also looking at Ikezawa-kun with "that kind of look," the two begin a unique relationship.
The "Manga to be Adapted into an Anime Ranking" is selected by public vote from among works that have been released as comics, including online works, and are "manga that people want to see adapted into an anime" and "works that people want to see more of." The 8th place winner was Kota Kawae's "Nue's Exorcist," the 7th place winner was Nakasora Hami's "Shinanonchi no Ikuru," the 6th place winner was Sumiyoshi Kyu's "Hyperinflation," the 5th place winner was Hapomu's "Senpai Is an Otokonoko," the 4th place winner was Sakurai Norio's "The Dangers in My Heart," the 3rd place winner was Oda Tomohito's "Komi-san wa, Komyushou desu.", the 2nd place winner was Morishita Makoto's "Im," and the 1st place winner was Inoue Sato's "10DANCE."
