The seventh episode of the drama series "Reunion ~Silent Truth~" (TV Asahi, Tuesdays at 9 PM), starring actor Ryoma Takeuchi, aired on February 24th. Towards the end of the episode, new facts were revealed about the gun used in the supermarket manager murder. Furthermore, there was a scene in which Naoto (Daichi Watanabe) uttered certain words about Makiko (Mao Inoue) in front of Junichi (Takeuchi), which caused a stir on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers.
In episode 7, Junichi finally confesses that he was the one who shot and killed the bank robber 23 years ago. However, Detective Minami Ryo (Noriko Eguchi), who was re-examining the crime scene with Junichi and four of his classmates, warns them not to tell anyone about their conversation. Junichi is confused when he learns that Minami Ryo has no intention of reporting it to the police higher-ups. Minami Ryo then quietly tells him, "Because that case isn't over yet."
Minami Ryo visits Makiko, whose alibi has been ruined, in search of the truth behind the murder of supermarket manager Hideyuki Sakuma (Yuto Koyanagi). Minami Ryo asks Makiko to keep what he is about to tell her a secret between the two of them, and tells her that he thinks Junichi may have been mistaken about shooting Oshima.
Later, Junichi is called by Makiko to her house, where he confesses all the pain he has endured up until now. He then tells Keisuke (played by Koji Seto) that Makiko's alibi has been ruined, and when Keisuke asks him, "Do you think Makiko did it?", Junichi goes to Naoto after the phone call and asks, "Did Naoto really do it?"
Junichi tells Naoto that he won't be charged unless the gun is found, so Naoto reveals that he buried the gun in the time capsule again. Junichi then digs up the time capsule in the middle of the night, but the gun is gone.
Later, when Naoto hears the truth from Junichi, he is upset, saying that it can't be true, but then he remembers that he had told Makiko that "the gun will never come out again," and he suddenly becomes distraught, saying, "Why, Maki-chan..." and "I will always protect you, Maki-chan..." Junichi, who was watching Naoto like that, quietly asked him, "Does Makiko have a gun?" and "Did Makiko shoot Sakuma Hideyuki with a gun?"
On social media, many people speculated about the possible culprit of the crime based on the conversation between Junichi and Naoto, with comments such as, "Is it Makiko after all?", "Is it Makiko? Maybe she was planning to leave her child with Keisuke and go to the police," "There's a theory that she's pretending to be Makiko to protect her beloved son, Masaki," "I think the culprit is her son, pretending to be Makiko," and "Maybe Naoto is protecting Makiko and Makiko is protecting her son."
