It was announced on February 19th that actress Megumi Hata will be appearing as a guest voice actor in "Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway," the 29th film in the popular anime series "Detective Conan," based on the manga by Gosho Aoyama. Hata, who began her entertainment career as a model at the age of one and has been in the entertainment industry for around 23 years, will be trying her hand at voice acting for the first time, playing the role of Minato Tateoki, a female police officer for the Kanagawa Prefectural Police.
Hata expressed her joy at being in the role, saying, "I was nervous as it was my first voice acting job, but when I received the offer I felt a mixture of surprise and joy. I am very happy to have been chosen as a guest voice actor for Detective Conan, a series I used to watch with my family every weekend as a child and try to solve the mysteries in. In this production, I will be playing Tateoki Minato, a female police officer with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police. As she conducts her investigations, she discovers important information that will lead to the resolution of the case, and guides Conan and Chihaya in solving it. There will be more action scenes and exciting scenes than ever before, so be sure to check it out on the big screen at the theater!"
Hata, who had previously observed the dubbing of the regular voice actors together with another guest voice actor, Yokohama Ryusei, said excitedly, "I was really moved! Even before entering the booth, everyone's natural voices were just like the characters, it was like a dream... During the recording, the way they produced their voices and the power were beyond my imagination, I felt like a professional up close, and it was very inspiring." Regarding Yokohama, the setting for the movie, she said with a smile, "I love Yokohama! I went to the Red Brick Warehouse event with my friends, and I also love the beautiful scenery of Minato Mirai."
Producers Kondo Shuho, Yoshida Tsuyoshi, and Okada Yuhei explained their reason for casting Hata: "Tateoki Minato is a young police officer with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police, the same force as Chihaya and Jugo. Among the many mature members of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police, we wanted her to possess a 'life-sized persuasiveness'. With that in mind, we asked Hata Mei. Although this is her first time trying voice acting, she absorbed the sound director's instructions like a sponge during the dubbing, and her performance improved with each take. Despite her pure demeanor, her acting is surprisingly precise, and there are times when she seems 'child-like in appearance, but with the mind of an adult.' Her unashamed presence in front of a microphone for the first time strongly conveyed the depth of her career and her core as an artist. The interactions between Tateoki, played by Hata, and Chihaya are a must-see!"
"Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway" is set in Yokohama, where Conan and his friends are visiting the Kanagawa Motorcycle Festival, a motorcycle festival, when a mysterious, out-of-control "black motorcycle" suddenly appears in front of them. Chasing it is Hagiwara Chihaya, a police motorcycle officer from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Mobile Unit, who Ran once saw as the "Goddess of Wind." Later, at the festival site, a police motorcycle equipped with the latest technology, "Angel," is unveiled. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, a "black motorcycle (Lucifer)" goes out of control. The film will be released on April 10th.
"Detective Conan" is a manga that depicts Conan Edogawa solving difficult cases one after another, and began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) in 1994. The total number of comics published has exceeded 270 million copies. The TV anime has been broadcast since 1996, and the first movie, "Detective Conan: The Time Bombed Skyscraper," was released in 1997.
The 28th movie in the series, "Detective Conan: Afterimage of the One-Eyed," released in 2025, grossed approximately 14.6 billion yen, surpassing the 10 billion yen mark for the third consecutive year, and setting a new record for the first time for a Japanese film by attracting an audience of over 10 million people for the second consecutive year.
