It has been revealed that Matsumoto Jun will be making a guest appearance as Matsudaira Katamori, the lord of the Aizu domain, in the drama "Chirururan: Shinsengumi Requiem," starring Yamada Yuki.
"Chirururan: Shinsengumi Requiem" (Zenon Comics) is a popular manga written by Shinya Umemura and illustrated by Eiji Hashimoto, based on historical facts but with a bold interpretation. The story follows Hijikata Toshizo, a brawler who is quick to fight and only seeks to be the strongest, who meets a talented man named Kondo Isami and, together with his strong-willed comrades, Okita Souji and Saito Hajime, they form the Shinsengumi...
Matsumoto plays Matsudaira Katamori, a man who, despite sensing the fate of the shogunate's demise, boldly accepts the position of Kyoto protector, welcoming Kondo Isami and Hijikata Toshizo, who were merely a group of ronin, and officially entrusting them with maintaining peace in Kyoto.
Matsumoto and Yamada co-starred in the NHK Taiga drama "What Will Ieyasu Do?" as their lord, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and his strongest vassal, Honda Tadakatsu, who continued to protect Ieyasu throughout his life. This strongest tag team, who survived together through the Sengoku period, has reunited again in the setting of the end of the Edo period.
This is a large-scale project by TBS, U-NEXT, and THE SEVEN, which also produced "Alice in Borderland." TBS will broadcast the special drama "Edo Youth Arc" on two consecutive nights on March 26th and 27th, starting at 9 PM each night. U-NEXT will exclusively stream the drama series "Kyoto Decisive Battle Arc" after the broadcast on the 27th. The series features a star-studded cast, including Yamada as the protagonist Toshizo Hijikata, Suzuki Nobuyuki as Isami Kondo, Nakamura Aoi as Keisuke Yamanami, Hosoda Kaito as Souji Okita, Ayano Go as Kamo Serizawa, and Nakajima Kento as Izo Okada.
