◇The following contains spoilers.
In episode 5, detective Ryo Minami (Noriko Eguchi) voluntarily accompanies Naoto, the younger brother of the victim, whose alibi for the night of the supermarket manager murder has collapsed. If Naoto is the culprit, when did he dig up the time capsule he and his four classmates buried 23 years ago and take out the murder weapon, a handgun?
Junichi, Makiko (Inoue Mao), and Keisuke (Seto Koji) are distraught, torn between wanting to believe Naoto's innocence and worrying that their "secret from 23 years ago" might be exposed. Just then, Naoto confesses to the crime. However, Minami Ryo continues to observe the behavior of Makiko and her classmates.
Meanwhile, Junichi, who has been removed from the investigation, secretly contacts Naoto, who is in custody, and tries to uncover the truth behind the incident...
In the episode, while in detention, Naoto asks Junichi, "Why don't you get married?" and "Why didn't you contact Maki after you graduated?" Naoto then asks Junichi, "Isn't it because you were carrying something that you could never escape from?" Confused, Junichi asks, "What have you been talking about...?" Naoto reveals that there was something he had decided to keep locked away in his heart for the rest of his life, and confesses, "At that time... I saw it." Then, in a subsequent flashback, it is revealed that 23 years ago, Naoto had followed Junichi into the forest, and that he had seen Junichi fire a gun.
Naoto's confession caused a stir on social media. Comments included, "I was shocked," "The ending was so shocking," "It was such an unexpected turn of events," "It was such a sudden turn of events that it gave me chills," "That's why he washed his hands so often because of the trauma," "Who did Junichi shoot," "Junichi shot the culprit because his dad was shot...," "That's why he left Makiko...it's so painful," and "He did shoot, but that doesn't mean he hit him."
