It was revealed on July 2nd that actor Shota Sometani will appear in the 2026 NHK Asadora drama series "Blossom ," starring Shizuka Ishibashi . He will play Ichiro Nishio, a promising young novelist who competes with the protagonist, Tama Hano (Ishibashi). This will be Sometani's first appearance in a Asadora in seven years, since "Natsuzora" in the first half of 2019.
Nishio Ichiro, played by Someya, is a promising young novelist. He becomes acquainted with Tama, who frequents the same publishing house, and recognizes her talent as a writer early on. Eventually, they become friends who inspire and challenge each other to improve their work.
Someya expressed her delight at being cast, saying, "I am very happy and excited to be a part of the life of Tama Hano, who lives her life with strength and charm." She added, "The novelist Ichiro Nishio, whom I will be playing, is a straightforward, honest, and honest man. I spend my days fantasizing about what kind of influence Ichiro can have on Tama, played by Shizuka Ishibashi."
"I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of influence Tama will have on me. I think it will be a very unique yet heartwarming reaction. I want to cherish the joy of being able to live in this wonderful world of ' Blossom,' and take each scene one step at a time," she said, expressing her enthusiasm.
Shunpei Murayama, the production supervisor, said, "This time, we are announcing Shota Sometani as Ichiro Nishio, a talented writer who competes and inspires the protagonist, Tama Hano. When we learned that the writer who served as the model for the character, Shiro Ozaki, was cheerful, generous, and well-liked by everyone, Mr. Sometani immediately came to mind." He added, "As they build a rich environment with their fellow writers, they move to the next stage as novelists... The changing relationship between Ichiro and Tama, who are ambitious to rise to the top but hit walls, will create a new drama. The entire team is looking forward to witnessing that moment."
"Blossom" is a story modeled after Chiyo Uno, a writer who lived through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras and constantly sought freedom. The protagonist, Tama Hano, leaves her hometown of Iwakuni, Yamaguchi, and, through encounters with fascinating people, pursues her dreams and plunges into the turbulent times of the Taisho and Showa eras. The screenplay is written by Tsuyoshi Sakurai and Yoshiko Komatsu, known for their work on "Your Things Are Here" and "Boogie Woogie."
