NHK's documentary program "Another Stories: Turning Points of Fate," which featured the popular martial arts manga "Fist of the North Star" (written by Tetsuo Hara Hara), a huge hit in the 1980s, will be rebroadcast on July 1st at 9:15 PM.
"Fist of the North Star" was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 1983 to 1988. Set in 199X, in a post-nuclear war world ruled by violence, it depicts the growth of Kenshiro, the successor to the legendary assassination martial art Hokuto Shinken, as he battles formidable opponents including his brother Raoh. The comic books have sold over 100 million copies in total. It was adapted into a TV anime in 1984 and became a hit with famous lines such as "You are already dead." Theatrical anime films and OVAs (Original Video Animations) have also been produced. The first season of a new anime series aired from April to June of this year.
The program's subtitle is "The Birth of 'Fist of the North Star' - Another 'Fight' Behind the Scenes." It features Buronson, Hara, and Nobuhiko Horie, the former editor-in-chief of "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) who was in charge of editing the work, three men bound together by what can only be described as fate. The program delves into the behind-the-scenes story of the birth of this masterpiece manga.
