It has been announced that the popular group "20th Century" will be performing the opening theme (OP) "Bokura ga Okikaeshi Suru Sekai" for the second season of the TV anime "MAO," which is based on the latest work by Urusei Yatsura Rumiko Takahashi, known for manga such as "Urusei Yatsura" and "Inuyasha." Masayuki Sakamoto, Hiroshi Nagano, and Yoshihiko Inohara of "20th Century" previously performed the opening theme "CHANGE THE WORLD" for the TV anime "Inuyasha" as part of "V6," and after approximately 26 years, they will once again be performing the opening theme for an anime based on a work by Takahashi. To commemorate this, a non-credit version of the opening video for "Inuyasha" featuring "CHANGE THE WORLD" has been released on YouTube.
20th Century commented, "Our song 'Bokura ga Okikaesu Sekai' has been chosen as the opening theme for the second season of the TV anime 'MAO'! This is our first collaboration with Rumiko Takahashi since 'CHANGE THE WORLD,' the opening theme for 'Inuyasha.' We are extremely honored to be involved in another work created by Ms. Takahashi. We hope that 'MAO' fans will love it."
"MAO" has been serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) since May 2019. Set in the Taisho era, it is a dark fantasy x time-slip mystery in which Mao, an onmyoji (exorcist) who has lived for 900 years, meets Koyo Nanaka, a girl who has wandered in from the Reiwa era, and together they confront a chain of curses. The anime is directed by Teruo Sato and produced by Sunrise. It is currently airing on NHK General every Saturday at 11:45 PM. The first season started in April.
