TBS's new announcers, Narumi Tada, Ema Burns, and Gen Fujioka, made their debut on the station's information programs "THE TIME' (The Time Dash)" (Monday-Friday, 4:30 AM) and "THE TIME," (Monday-Friday, 5:20 AM). We asked Fujioka about his thoughts on his debut and his goals for the future.
Fujioka was born on April 24, 2003, in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, and raised in Ota Ward, Tokyo. She graduated from Keio University's Faculty of Law, and her hobbies include touring ancient burial mounds using Google Earth and watching rap battles.
Fujioka, who was making her first television appearance, recalled her feelings at the time, saying, "I was just so nervous the whole time." "While watching the video of the dog, I noticed that the light in front of the camera had turned red, and I stared at it intently... (laughs). I didn't realize that it was being shown in a picture-in-picture window, and I thought I was being really amateurish," she said, describing her bittersweet debut.
She said she "cried" when she received the job offer from TBS, and revealed her family's reaction, saying, "My father said 'thank you' to me. I think he was very happy."
At TBS, she said she particularly likes the large-scale sports variety show "SASUKE," and stated her goal: "I'd like to do commentary for SASUKE." "I also like variety shows and comedy, such as 'Wednesday's Downtown,' so I would be happy if I could be involved in variety shows in some way."
His idol is announcer Shinya Sugiyama, who has worked on many programs across various genres, including "THE TIME," "SASUKE," "How Much Money Do You Know?", and "Job Tune."
"I think it's ideal for an announcer to work on both news programs and variety shows. She teaches us newcomers everything carefully, and I hope to become like Ms. Sugiyama, not only in her work but also as a person."
She then added, "People often tell me that I'm very approachable, so when I have juniors, I want to become a frank announcer that they can tease."
