It has been announced that "I am a hero too," a special short anime of " My Hero Academia, " the anime based on the manga by Kohei Horikoshi serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), will be available on various streaming platforms starting August 3rd. Prior to the streaming release, it will be premiered at the My Hero Academia special event at "AnimeExpo2026," an event held in Los Angeles in July, and will also be screened at the second and third screenings of the "Character Matchup Famous Episode Screening" event, which will be held at movie theaters in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and other cities on August 1st and 2nd.
"I am a hero too" is based on a special one-shot manga that was included in the original fan book " My Hero Academia Ultra age" (Shueisha), released in December 2024. The story focuses on Eri, the girl Deku rescued from Overhaul, also known as Kai Chisaki, the young leader of the Shie Hassaikai, in the fourth season of the TV anime. Eight years after Deku and his friends graduated from U.A. High School, Eri, now a high school student herself, visits U.A. High School one day and is shown once again pursuing her dreams. The anime is said to have special effects prepared for this scene.
The "Character Matchup Memorable Episode Screening" is a project that picks out matchups between the main characters and screens the episodes related to them in movie theaters. The second installment, "Izuku Midoriya x Katsuki Bakugo," will be held on August 1st, and the third installment, "Izuku Midoriya x Tomura Shigaraki," will be held on August 2nd.
