The program "Jūnin Toiro ~Ie ni wa Nure Aru Kazoku no Katachi~" (MBS, Saturdays at 5pm, Kansai local broadcast and others), hosted by talent Mifune Mika and actor Taro Suruga, will feature a house that was self-renovated by an interior coordinator in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, in its May 16th broadcast.
The homeowners are a couple who will soon become a family of three with the arrival of their child. The wife is an interior coordinator, working on creating spaces such as model homes. The couple purchased a plot of land with a 50-year-old house on it for 25 million yen, which was cheaper than the market price, and decided to renovate it themselves. After nine months of hard work, they transformed the house into a home that showcases interior design.
The originally dimly lit room was transformed into a bright and spacious living and dining area by removing the ceiling and floor. The concrete tile floor was handcrafted by the husband, one tile at a time, using cement. Because he couldn't find tiles with the color and texture he liked, he made tiles in various colors and had his wife check them. After much deliberation, a garden was created in the space under the stairs, which would otherwise be a dead space.
The walls are adorned with small items, much like a general store. The wife shares a tip: if you group three items together to form a "triangle," it creates a sense of depth and makes it easier to achieve balance. Living in this house, the wife laughs, "We were both homebodies, but now we leave the house even less." The husband, who designed not only the dining room but also the bathroom and closet shelves himself, smiles and says, "He always comes home saying, 'Our house is the best!'"
"Jūnin Toiro" is a program that visits homes across Japan and introduces the unique features and charms of the homes of their inhabitants. After the broadcast, it is available for streaming on TVer for one week.
